Mistletoe is our biggest challenge-cocoa farmer

Cocoa farmers at Akyem Potrase in the Eastern Region are calling on government to support them with more Agric experts to help them eradicate mistletoe on their cocoa trees.

According to them, mistletoe has been their biggest challenge for some years now with government giving less attention. Speaking to Rite News, Mr. Agyeman Obeng Anor , a cocoa farmers in the area said they need the intervention of government because their effort alone is not yielding enough result in terms of fighting the parasite on their cocoa trees.

He stated that, their cocoa beans keeps reducing because the necessary nutrients is being consume by mistletoe thereby reducing the growth of the cocoa bean.

Mr. Agyeman stressed that black bod disease is also affecting their cocoa trees and they are therefore pleading with government to start the cocoa mass spraying on time.

He said all the cocoa farmers in the area are being cheated by the cocoa buying companies because they have adjusted their weighing scales and that after selling the cocoa beans, the money they receive is just a peanut.
