Hon. Lawyer Kofi Amoatey promises to take up DEOP ll findings

After a successful completion of Community Scorecard phase of Rite FM’s District Education Observer Project (DEOP ll), a number of teaching and learning militating issues have emerged as reasons why pupils perform poorly in the Yilo Krobo Municipality.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for the area Hon. Lawyer Kofi Amoatey, has promised the public he will help solve the problem.

Among the problems the project has unfolded are bad classrooms especially at the rural communities, multiple pupils sharing  mono or dua desk, lack and or absence of text books or teaching learning materials and parents or community low involvements in their pupils schooling needs and activities.

In some schools, while the pupils have access to both female and male teachers to emulate, other schools have only male teachers, which is contrary to the promotion of “Girl Child Education”.

According to Lawyer Magnus Kofi Amoatey, the NDC law maker for Yilo Krobo Constituency  in an interview with Rite Morning Ride has affirmed that, most educational structures in the country are in dilapidated state which Yilo is not exception.

He added that, ever since he resumes office, he put all measures to improve school building and teaching and learning in the constituency but financial challenges has handicapped his desire.

The Member of Parliament said, today [Thursday] being “World Teachers Day”, it was part of his plans to reward hard working teachers and partners in the Municipality for their immense effort and contribution in lifting performance  of students from the year 2013 -2017, but lack of resource and fund has incapacitated  his wish.

He therefore promised all teachers in the municipality to expect their rewards next year.

The Lawyer further on said, most of the ongoing schools projects are left uncompleted while others have not been tackling at all due to lack of resources after all his effort to reach GETDFUND to seek for support.

The Honorable MP revealed that Ogome Anglican School which forms part of the selected schools for DEOP II and few others was one of his target to rehabilitate but due to the change of Government his action seems to be delaying.

Lawyer Magnus Amoatey asserted that, his focus for education now is to invest in all kindergartens in the Municipality since it is the foundation of the educational chain but urged the Municipal Assembly to give more attention to educational facilities in the Municipality.

Hon Magnus Kofi Amoatey, lauded Rite FM for the project to promote education in Yilo but promised to file all problems identified on the project to the Ministry of Education for address.

He congratulated all teachers and their directors in the municipality for all their efforts up to this far.

The STAR-Ghana supported project with funding from from European Union, DANIDA and Ukaid will continue the second phase of the exercise with training workshop for PTA and SMC executives in October this year.
