Take Advantage of Planting for food and jobs Programme – Hon. Asiamah
The Minister for Youth and Sports has charged unemployed youth in the country to take advantage of government’s planting for food and jobs policy to establish their own farming businesses.
According to Hon. Isaac Asiamah, the planting for food and jobs policy offers a ‘special package’ which enables young people to benefit from the policy even without capital.
The Sports Minister made the call in an interview with Rite news during a 2-day Orientation Workshop for Regional and District Directors of the National Youth Authority in Koforidua.
He stressed that unemployed youth who are challenged with start up capital can take advantage of government’s planting for food and jobs policy to set up their own farms.
The package, the minister explained, offers free capital to affected people in the form of inputs where beneficiaries are expected to pay back from proceeds accrued from such projects.
“The planting for food and jobs policy has been packaged to benefit young people without money to start their own farming businesses. Beneficiaries are granted inputs as seeds, fertilizer, etc. which come as start up capitals for disadvantaged people to access and pay back to government from their proceeds,” Hon Asiamah said.
President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in April launched the “Planting for Food and Jobs” programme at Goaso, in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The programme which is expected to go a long way in transforming the country’s agriculture sector is also expected to among other things encourage the youth to desist from migrating elsewhere in search of limited existing white colour jobs.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon Isaac Asiamah has in an earlier interview with Rite news reiterated his ministry’s commitment towards prioritizing youth development in his government’s programmes.
According to him, the many youth economic intervention empowerment programmes that are being outlined and inaugurated since the beginning of the year attest to government’s desire to shape as well as build the capacity of the youth to take on more active roles in Ghana’s economic and social development.
