A rice seed farmer, Mr. Christian Akornor has advised his fellow farmers to pay attention to sanitation and hygiene whilst working on the farm.
He said the issue of farm sanitation and hygiene is very important because of the side effect of the chemicals and fertilizers they use during farming.
Mr. Christian Akornor who gave the advise during a day training organized by Kpong Irrigation Scheme (KIS) in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency at Asutsuari said, “farm sanitation is very important because the experts said the side effects of the chemical we use is very harmful to our farms and lives if their containers are not properly dispose of.”
He said if care is not taken, the situation will force them out of business as some rice farmers throw used chemical containers into the canal that provide them with irrigation.
“Some farmers’ dispose of their chemical bottles directly into the canal that provide us water for irrigation and end up polluting it,” he said.
