Mr. Kwakye Francis, Communications Director for Kuapa Kuafo Cocoa Farmers Union has been speaking to Rite news concerning the aims and ideas behind the formation of the group. According to Mr. Kwakye, the main aim of the group is to help cocoa farmers across the length and breadth of the country to export their cocoa and make sure that farmers are given the best of export deals.
That is not all; the union also seeks to ensure good education for the wards of members. This according to him is to discourage the practice of young children of cocoa farmers being forced to take up cocoa farming.
This according to him is because some farmers who are unable to adequately fund the education of their children end up introducing them to their farming activities where their wards have no choice but to also end up as farmers. He added that farmers can send their children to the farm but they have to take into consideration their age and the kind of job they intend for them.
Kuafo Cocoa Farmers Union is a self-help group or organization formed by cocoa farmers to seek the welfare of colleague farmers such as in the exportation processes.
