VRA Sensitizes The Public

The Volta River Authority as part of her annual cooperate responsibility, is embarking on a sensitization forum in ten districts/municipalities that shares boundary with the Volta lake.

On Wednesday, April 06, 2016 the VRA sensitization crew was in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly for the said exercise.

In attendance were key officers from various department of the municipal assembly, heads of the municipal security offices, traditional rulers, assembly members and some staff members of VRA.

Mr. Ulysses Ocran-Hammond, the Acting Manager of the Volta Dredge, explained to participants’ major cooperate responsibilities undertaken by the VRA in the year 2015 and the expectations of the VRA in 2016.

According to Mr. Ocran-Hammond, in 2015, the VRA completed 30 separate units Biofil micro flash stand-alone toilet facilities for the people of Kebenu in the Central Tongu District, a Nissan Navara Pick-up to facilitate activities has been donated to Asuogyaman District Assembly Education Directorate, Fodzoku Traditional Council was also support to renovate the EP Primary and D/A school blocks, Adjena Senior High was support by VRA to enable the school to put up a dining and an assembly hall and Anum Presby Senior High was also support to rehabilitate its boys’ dormitory

On the management of aquatic weeds Mr. Hammond started that Biological, and manual means are being employed to control the rapid growth of the aquatic weeds. Meanwhile the VRA and EPA are deliberating on the use of glyphosate as a chemical control measure.

In furtherance he stated that by the second half of 2016, the VRA will enter into Public Private Partnership agreements with some shortlisted foreign companies to manage the dredge and aquatic weeds on the Volta River.

He again added that all districts should collaborate with VRA to provide the best scholarship scheme for the indigenes. VRA also welcomes applications that seek the social aids of the VRA in improving the Livelihoods of indigenes in diverse means. The said forum will continue in other assemblies till the end of April.
