YILO KROBO: OVER GHS52, 000 ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT ITEMS RELEASED TO PWDs


Sixty-six Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the Yilo Krobo Municipal have received life sustaining items from the assembly at a ceremony in Nkrakan near Koforidua.

47 of them received cash totaling GH39,800. Whilst the remaining 19 were given various items such as fridges, deep freezers, industrial sewing machines, water storage poly tanks and plastic chairs.
This followed government’s commitment to eradicate abject poverty among persons with disability through the 3% share of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) allocated to PWDs.

The event which was led by the Social Welfare Directorate as well as the Persons With Disability Fund Management Committee, was highly attended by the MCE, Hon. Ebenezer Tetteh Kupualor, Mr. P.K. Asamoah, the Municipal Coordinating Director and his Deputy, Mrs. Sarah Nai Mensah, Social Welfare Director, Hon. Paul Ayertey, Assembly Member for Sra Electoral Area as well Disability Fund Management Committee Chairperson. Others were Hon. Dr. Gabriel Odeh Apotey, the constituency chairperson for the New Patriotic Party, Yilo Krobo.

“This is being done in line with fulfilling the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo’s vision of not leaving anybody especially People With Disability behind in his quest to improve the life of every Ghanaian,” the MCE said.

He further encouraged beneficiaries to make best economic gains from the items they received to enable them care for themselves and their families.
“The beneficiaries of the facility must endeavor to work harder to grow their businesses and create wealth for the upkeep of their respectively families.”

VALUE FOR MONEY
Hon. Ebenezer Tetteh Kupualor cautioned beneficiaries, that the office of the Social Welfare and the Fund Management Committee will from time to time monitor and ensure efficient use of the items to maximize living.
“The Department of Social Welfare as usual will continue monitor the use of these items to ensure value for money,” he read.
He also used the platform to educate PWDs on the content of application, saying for items such as fridge not to go waste applicants should apply for the fridge, ice chests and some amount of money to procure sachet water into the fridge. Similarly, applicants who have interest for poly tank must first have pipe borne water connected to the home through the Ghana Water Company Limited.

WE SHALL CARE FOR EVERY APPLICANT
According the MCE, there are many application unattended to due to unavailability of resources. He has however, assured applicants whose turn was not due to exercise patience since every application will be sorted out.
“…opportunity to assure all gathered here that the many applications received and not attended to today will get their fair share in due time, so such people should be patient,” Mr. Kupualor emphasized.
