One- District-One Factory: Yilo Krobo appeals for mango processing factory

The Agricultural Director of Yilo Krobo Municipality, Mr. Daniel Oduro has appealed to the government to consider establishing a mango processing factory in the municipality under the one District one factory policy.

According to Mr. Daniel Oduro, the one District one factory policy is an indication of the country taking a bold step into the era of industrialization.

He made the appeal during the visit of Nana Somoah Mireku Nyanpong III, a member of the Council of State.

According to him, the district is endowed with the cultivation of mangoes which could be processed for export as well as creating jobs for the youth in Yilo Krobo.

The Agric Director expressed optimism that the flagship programme would help address the nagging issue of post-harvest losses suffered by mango farmers in the area since the land was blessed with good soil which supports mango production.

Mr. Oduro however, bemoaned the low mango production among mango farmers in the area, a situation he blamed on the bacterial black spot which is hindering the activities of the mango cultivation.

He feared this would collapse the sector if immediate steps are not taken to salvage the situation since it’s leaving in its tracks a lot of destruction to mango farms across the municipality.

He said the mango industry needs intensive research to restrict the new outbreak since it’s a threat to that industry.

Mr. Oduro thus appealed to the government and the relevant authorities to intervene in the farmers’ predicament by addressing the menace.

He also called on government to pay more attention to the sector than it is currently, to maximize the profits enjoyed by the farmers.
