Koforidua poly considering alternative power

Authorities at the Koforidua Polytechnic are considering alternative source of power for the school following recent impasse with the Electricity Company of Ghana.

The ECG disconnected power supply to the school for over month due to government’s failure to pay huge debt owed the company.

Speaking at the school’s matriculation ceremony, the Rector, Professor Afua Guava Dzisi, said the school is making arrangements to wean itself off the national grid.

She noted that their institution was not immune to the energy crisis but in addition to contending with “dumsor,” their institution has also had to suffer power cuts due to their inability to pay their electricity bills.

“We have had to contend with power cuts due to our inability to pay our electricity bills. Difficult as the situation is, we are seeking ingenious ways of addressing the challenges,” she said.

She said “In the medium term, we are working towards alternative sources of power to reduce our dependence on the national grid.”
