Kenya: Agriculture CS Felix Koskei Steps Aside, Maintains He Is Not Corrupt

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Felix Koskei has stepped aside to pave way for investigations into corruption allegations against him.

Koskei becomes the first person to step aside after President Uhuru’s remarks in Parliament during the State of the Nation address on Thursday.

“It is the role of every Kenyan to respect the rule of law and uphold the spirit of constitutionalism and as leaders we have to lead by example.” said Koskei.

The CS said that he was never interrogated by the anti-graft commission but took it upon himself to uphold the rule of law.

“I am not stepping aside because I am guilty, I am stepping aside because it is the right thing to do.” added Koskei

Speaking in his office, Koskei said leaders must serve its people because they are here on behalf of Kenyan.

He said he will go to EACC offices to know exactly what the allegations against him are.

Koskei’s announcement comes after governors and the opposition rubbished President Uhuru Kenyatta’s corruption purge, insisting the Head of State should first tell his Deputy William Ruto to quit in the grand housecleaning.

Uhuru demanded that officials at all levels of government step aside if they are adversely mentioned in a confidential report by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

This list is said to include as many as 50 top officials, and another 150 throughout the country. The President said he did not prejudge them and investigations would be swift.
