Hearts battle Liberty for survival

Accra Hearts of Oak will battle Liberty Professionals in a must-win encounter to begin their journey of surviving the drop in a mid-week duel of First Capital Plus Premier League at the Carl Reindorf Park.

With five matches remaining to end the competition, Hearts know beating Liberty away from home, and winning the rest of the four matches is their only escape route from relegation.

The Phobians currently lying 15th on the league log with 29 points suffered a major setback when they lost 1-2 to their arch rivals Asante Kotoko over the weekend and dropping any point in Dansoman could signal their end in the league.

In a game against the Dansoman lads who occupy the 10th position and equally needing the maximum points to swim completely to safety, The Carl Reindorf Park without a doubt will witness fireworks masked by desperation.

With both clubs losing their respective last fixtures, the stage is set for what could be a highly competitive duel for the city rivals. Between them, Liberty has managed nine home victories, two defeats and a draw out of their 12 home matches against a Hearts side with a record of seven away losses, four draws and a win.

Liberty coach, George Lamptey will look to return to winning ways after his side lost to league leaders AshGold at the weekend. Though the homers seem to have lost a bit of the drive they began the season with, they still start as favourites.

In other fixtures, Bechem United will lock horns with leaders AshGold at the Bechem Park whilst title contenders Aduana Stars face Hassacas at the Agyemang Badu Park, Dormaa.

In another interesting encounter, relegation threatened Great Olympics welcome third placed Berekum Chelsea at the Accra Sports Stadium. With Olympics seeking the full spoils to keep them in the league, Chelsea equally need the maximum points to shoot up.

At the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium, New Edubiase will clash with Inter Allies whereas Heart of Lions welcome bottom placed B.A United to the Kpando Park.

Elsewhere at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Asante Kotoko will engage Wa All Stars with Medeama SC facing off West Africa Football Academy (WAFA).
