FA Cup competition has been a success – Kurt Okraku

The Chairman of the FA Cup Committee of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt E.S Okraku says he believes that his outfit has delivered on the promise to make the FA Cup competition exciting and innovative.

The 2017 season of the MTN FA Cup came to a close on Sunday when Asante Kotoko beat Hearts of Oak 3-1 in Tamale to be crowned champions.
The Porcupine Warriors scored three times in the first half, through striker Saddick Adams to win their 9th FA Cup title.

The Porcupine Warriors have been duly rewarded with GH50, 000 with a further GH100, 000 to come, if they (Kotoko) decide to play in the CAF Confederations Cup.
The winner of the FA Cup automatically qualifies to play in CAF’s second tier competition, but Kotoko can pass-on the opportunity if they feel unprepared or unwilling to do so, in which case they won’t get the 100,000 which is meant to help the FA Cup winner prepare for the CAF Confederations Cup

“It has been an amazing story, a story which began somewhere in December 2016, and ended here in Tamale with the final game of the competition. I think that in totality we have delivered on our promise to provide a fair playing field for the two teams and today we stand justified.

“We will do a review of course and think about what we can do for the competition in the future but for now we need to celebrate for putting domestic football on another level and prove once again that we as a people can do great things.”
