Ex-Ghana star Kingston blasts Abraham Boakye over Grant assistant appointment call

Former Ghana international midfielder Laryea Kingston has sharply criticised Ghanaian supporter’s leader Abraham Boakye over his call for the Ghana Football Association to allow Avram Grant to appoint his own assistant coach.

Kingston, a former Hearts of Midlothian midfielder, wants Maxwell Konadu to remain as Grant’s assistant.

Earlier in the week, President of the Ghana National Supporter’s Union (GHANSU), Abraham Boakye had told a local radio station that the Ghana Football Association must allow the former Chelsea Boss to pick his own assistant trainer.

However, the Ghana FA wants Konadu who acted as in an interim position before the arrival of Grant to learn under the Israeli.

“Where is this coming from, because I really see the motive behind it as being mischievous? Why should Grant choose his own assistant and now that Maxwell has so much experience when it comes to the issues of the Black Stars,” Kingston told Sports Crusader.

“These calls are really mischievous and should not be allowed to see the light of day,” he added.

Kingston, now 34, is almost retired from football but has not officially made an announcement.
