Grant wants strong sanction on Guinean goalkeeper for Gyan injury

Coach Avram Grant has called for Naby Yattara to be handed a lengthy ban after the Guinean goalkeeper hacked down Asamoah Gyan just a minute to the end of their quarter finals match played on Sunday.

Yattara who earlier pushed Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu to the ground in a very violent manner, was given a red card for his attack on Gyan but Grant believes the Guinean deserves more than that.

“Am frustrated what he did is not acceptable in football because he tried to hack Gyan in the last minute of a 3-0 scoreline. It’s a bad injury.

“If you hack someone deliberately on the stomach it means you possibly want to end the career of other player.”

“It shows you do not respect the game and you do not respect those who play against you.If a player wants to take another player out of the game completely its not acceptable”.

“When I saw it again in the replay I saw it was terrible. The goalkeeper deserved a red card in the first half when he pushed Atsu to the ground but he got away with that”.

“I think is an opportunity for CAF to show everybody how they protect the players.”

“I hope and am waiting to see what will be the punishment. I think at least one year out of the game completely”,Ghana head coach told Ghanafa.org.

The Black Stars skipper will undergo a scan in Mongomo to confirm if will be available for the semi finals match against Equatorial Guinea on Thursday.
