George Afriyie lied to Dzamefe C’ssion – Sports Minister

Sports minister, Dr. Mustapha Ahmed, has revealed that the chairman of the Black Stars Management committee, George Afriyie lied during his encounter with the Justice Senyo Dzamefe Commission.

The Dzamefe Commission was tasked by President John Mahama to look into Ghana’s shambolic performance in the 2014 FIFA world cup in Brazil and other related matters arising.

President John Dramani Mahama received the report of the Commission of Enquiry on 30th March 2015 and a White Paper released a couple of weeks ago directed George Afriyie, Emmanuel Gyimah and Felix Ansong to stay away from the national teams.

“George Afriyie’s ban from the national teams isn’t a surprise. He didn’t provide all the details to the commission when he was invited to give his account. He lied and we should all respect what the White paper has recommended,” he stated in an exclusive interview with Patrick Osei Agyemang aka Countryman Songo on Adom TV’s Fire for Fire programme on Tuesday June 16, 2015.

The White Paper also directed that former Youth and Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah should be surcharged if further investigations reveal he misappropriated funds.

“Any misappropriation or misapplication of the funds given by GNPC to E-Volution International on behalf of the Ministry of Youth and Sports should be refunded by E-Volution International or surcharged to the former Minister for Youth and Sports (Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah).”

The Paper also mandated the Bureau of National Investigations to conduct further investigations into the affairs of the Ghana Football Association and particularly the President of the FA, Kwesi Nyantakyi.

Dr. Mustapha Ahmed assured Ghanaians the recommendations of the Dzamefe Committee will be fully implemented.

“Those who are calling on the government to implement what the White Paper is saying should be calm, we are in charge and we know what we are doing”.
