Extension Officer Cautions Farmers Ahead Of 2016 Farming Season

Mr. Jeremiah Nuettey Teye, an agric extention officer and doctor for plant clinic in Somanya in the Yilo Krobo district of the Eastern Region has advised farmers to take all the necessary caution ahead of the 2016 farming season. This according to him is to safeguard the farming sector against expected and unexpected conditions such as the low rainfall which was the bane of farmers last year.

Mr. Nuettey who was speaking on the Rite Morning Ride also lamented on the climate change which has largely affected farming and food production in the country. The climate change, he added has really taken its toll on farming activities in the country.

He said farmers are taking a gamble over whether the rains shall fall this year or not since they have no control over it. He said the farmers should adopt small irrigation methods to minimize the tendency of the risk or try as much as possible to listen to the meteorological services regarding the rainfall pattern for the year.

He therefore advised farmers in particularly forest areas to begin farming preparations early because the rains can still fail them this year.
