The secretary of Agomeda Mango Farmers’ Association in the Shai Osudoku District, Mr. Kofi Teye has argued that, establishing processing company in Somanya will not be successful.
Some farmers in the Yilo Krobo Municipality speaking to Rite News has called on individuals and the private entities to establish mango processing plant in the area to enable them send their mangoes for processing as fruit juice.
Mr. Teye said it is a good news for the farmers to produce more mangoes to be processed, but it is unfortunate that the farmers cannot supply the mangoes at all time adding that they only produce mangoes on seasonal.
According to him, mangoes come on seasonal and after that, you will not get some again unless the next season, besides there is no storage system to keep harvested mangoes for processing.
He explained that it will be useful if the processing companies are going to process other fruits aside the mango because farmers in the area only produce or cultivate mango.
Mr. Teye advised the processing companies to take note of all these information before they make up their mind to set up a processing company in Somanya, else they will run at lost
