Cassava Has a Huge Potential

Cassava is a hugely valuable root crop that has the potential to turn the economy around. This is according to Mr. William Agyei. In an exclusive interview with Rite news, the Executive Director of Ghana Cassava Center of Excellence, Mr. William Agyei said that cassava had a huge potential that can boost the Ghanaian economy if the needed support was given to people in the cassava value chain sector.

The first ever cassava week celebration began in Accra on Monday with huge participation from the participators in the cassava value chain industry and beyond. The week-long celebration which is an initiative of the Ghana Cassava Center of Excellence is fully packed with a lot of activities including the biggest cassava conference that will be launched on Wednesday the 16th of September 2015.

He said that the perception that cassava was only meant for food has changed in modern days because new products such as beverages, chemicals, glue, papers and other valuable products, are produced from cassava and that that was ample evidence of the fact that there was a huge cassava market out there.

Mr. Agyei further mentioned that the cassava conference which will be launched will host the vice president, Paa Kwesi Ammissah Arthur and other important dignitaries from Brazil and Nigeria to deliberate on how to create a good market for cassava producers and processes.
