DANGER LOOMS AS STOREY BUIDING TURNS DEATH TRAP AT AGORMAYA MARKET

A dilapidated storey building at Agormanya market area, poses a life threating situation if the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly Authorities do not move early to demolish to salvage the situation on hand.

Agormanya market represents the sole market in the municipality, saddled with multiple huge cracks serves the people in the Eastern as well as parts of the Greater Accra and the Volta regions.

The particular storey building is dislocated in shape and poses life threatening situations at where the food vendors and other fowl sellers sell the local fowls during market days; Saturdays and Wednesdays.

In the investigating process, the following authorities; the  Lower Manya Krobo municipal Assembly as well as the Agormanya South Electoral Area, Hon. Philip Batsa’s attention was drawn to the said cracked storey building by the local media. These authorities have therefore welcomed the process so far followed and have thus expressed their readiness to help in the process to find a solution to the problem.

In three month later, the reporter made another visit to the Physical Planning Officer in charge, Mr. Maxwell Agyekum on that premise however, said the cost involve was rather too higher to bear. So Mr. Agyekkum shifted the goal post and responsibility to one Mr. Adjetey who was said to be the care-taker.

Mr. Agyekum therefore, could not have any progressive information to share on the said dilapidated storey building again. He was rather reintegrating the same issue.

Mr. Agyekum, the Municipal Physical Planning officer however, later said that, the said Mr. Adjetey said, he was still in the process of searching money to demolish the said crack storey building waiting for “imminent collapse.”

Another risk on the situation is, “we are in the raining season and as such,  traders do hide under such disjoint life threatening storey building when it rains,” one trader whose  identity is undisclosed opined.

The sorry situation of the said structure still lingers on in spite of numerous follow ups on the physical Planning Department together with Mr. Adjetey on the said trap building proved futile as at the time of filling this particular story.
