37-YEAR-OLD SHEEP THIEF JAILED

A 37 year-old farmer at Atebubu in the Brong Ahafo Region has been sentenced to ten (10) month imprisonment with hard labour by an Atebubu Magistrate Court.

Kofi Bonginaa was handed the punishment after he pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing.

Police Chief Inspector Issahak Nyarko, told the court presided over by His Lordship Joseph Hamidu Nasigri that, on the 14 of August 2015, around 1:00am, the convict sneaked into the home of a neighbour at Zongo No 1 in Atebubu. He said the convict tied the animal after which he wrapped it with a mat and finally tied it on his bicycle.

Unfortunately for him some two boys who were also returning from nature’s call met him with his booty. Suspecting foul play, the two questioned Kofi as to the ownership of the animal but he failed to give any convincing answers. To get to the bottom of the story, the two accompanied him to the police station to lodge a formal complaint.

Police Chief Inspector Nyarko said the convict confessed to the crime of stealing a sheep valued GHC 150.00 in his caution statement.
