2015 Ghana Rice Festival Slated For Thursday

All is set for the launch of this year’s Ghana Rice Festival slated for Thursday, the 1st  of October, 2015 at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Ridge in Accra.

Mr. Evans Sackey Teye, the Executive Secretary for the Ghana Rice Inter Professional Body, GRIPB, speaking on Rite Fm’s Morning Ride said, the maiden edition of the Rice Festival was launched in 2012. He however said subsequent editions of the festival fell through as a result of the lack of an appropriate venue to host the programme.

He said the aim of the event is tell Ghanaians about the different kinds and brands of local rice. He also stated that the festival is open to consumers especially the general public who are interested in locally manufactured rice.

Mr. Evans sackey continue by saying, there is the need to clear the perception that the locally manufactured rice is not quality, contains stones and other negative remarks as these discourage would be consumers from patronizing the locally manufactured rice.

He said the rice produced in Ghana is of better quality as compared to rice coming in from some countries. He mentioned some brands of rice produced in Ghana as Perfume Rice, Long Grain, among others.

He further condemned the practice whereby Ghanaian farmlands are given to foreign investors and entrepreneurs, describing the situation as tantamount to condoning to contributing to the risks of hunger, poverty and jobless to Ghanaians.
