The third NSD was observed in the Ashanti Region on Saturday, January 3, 2015, in recognition of Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu’s commitment to ensuring the success of the campaign. The Day saw massive participation in the Region.

The National Sanitation Day held on the first Saturday of every month is Government’s response to a horrific cholera outbreak that claimed more than 150 lives and infected over 17,000 people.

Speaking to the media shortly after participating in the exercise, Communications Manager for Zoomlion Ghana, Robert Coleman indicated the resolve of the company to “embark on massive public education to effect attitudinal change”

“Zoomlion will play a tremendous role to ensure that the National Sanitation Day is observed monthly. We intend to support government this year and distribute 1000s of bins,” he stated.

Mr. Coleman called on traditional leaders to “emulate Otumfuo and the Okyehene [Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin), and join the fight against filth to keep their communities clean”.

He also urged the MMDAs to enforce the byelaws on environmental sanitation to ensure that those who violate the laws are dealt with accordingly.
