You Can Do More – Regional Minister Urged Farmers

The honourable Eastern Regional Minister, Honourable Eric Kwakye Darfour has encouraged farmers to do more to feed the country and also export to other part of the world to ease pressure on the country’s economy.

The honourable Minster said this when he opened a two -day Fruits and Vegetables fair at Koforidua Technical University.

Citing AgroTech Farms in Dedeiso in the Fanteakwah North District as an example, the Minister said, the Eastern Region alone has the potential to feed the country so that there will be no need to import Vegetables from country like Burkina Faso.

Honourable Darfour commended the Regional Agricultural Department and GIZ Market Oriented Agricultural Program for their support to the mango, Chilli and Pineapple value chain in the Region. He said through their intervention, Kornokokli irrigation scheme has been made functional since 2017, and for the first time Vegetables farmers were able to farm all year round.

Commenting on the theme ‘ Fruits and Vegetables: A catalyst for Health and Economic Development ‘, the Regional Director of Food and Agriculture, Mr. Henry Cranstil urged farmers to ensure that they produce high quality fruits and vegetables that meet international standards.

The purpose of the fair, FruitVeg Fair, according to the organizers is tocreate environment for local companies to present their products to potential investors and partners, and expand their market to the public, both locally and internationally.
