Yilo Krobo: Okper Division Enstools GRA Officer As Chief

The chieftaincy institution in Ghana is a system that structures and regulates the activity of local chieftains in the Ghanaian society and state.

This underscores the fact the role of chiefs as traditional leaders in promoting culture, custom, peace and development cannot be underestimated in the day-to-day lives of the people.

Elders of Okper Division

Having left without a divisional chief for years, according to the family head of Okper We Kpeti Nene Setse Agorku, the Okper Division which is one of the 6 divisions forming the Yilo Krobo Paramountcy has selected and enstooled Nene Teye Agor IV as the Divisional Chief for the area.

The traditional ceremony to outdoor the new chief came off on Monday at Okper in Somanya after successful one-week indoor rituals were performed. The ritual which did not allow the chief to have sexual affairs taught him communication skills and how to conduct himself as a chief in public.

Nene Setse Agorku, a leading king-maker in Okper We Kpeti (family head) told Rite FM that, “now that we are done with the rituals, we will set a date for Nene Teye Agor IV to swear an oath of allegiance to the Paramount chief for Yilo Krobo, Nene Nuer AnnorBaah Sasraku.”

Adding: “Subsequently, he will be outdoor to the general public.”

He further said the expectations of the Okper Division from the newly enstooled chief included toilet facility, potable drinking water and other social amenities which the area is lacking.

Until Nene Teye Agor was enstooled a chief, he works with the Custom Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority. He was a product of Yilo Krobo Senior High School and an Alumnus of the University of Ghana.

His enstoolment means all the 6 divisions in the Yilo Krobo Paramountcy, namely; Bornya, Plau, Ogome, Bunase, Nyewer and Okper are currently reigning with a chief.
