By Doris Ampommea

Mrs. Patience Akodoku, a maize and rice farmer at Akuse in the Eastern Region has been sharing with Right news her experiences as far as her farming activities are concerned.

Mrs. Akodoku who was speaking on the Akuafo Se Sen segment of the Rite Morning Ride indicated that her parents were farmers, a situation which largely influenced her to equally go into farming.

Madam Patience who stated that maize and rice farming is more profitable as compared to other crops was convinced that that farming has been a good choice. This is because it has served as a source of livelihood for her and her family including taking care of the education of her children.

But it isn’t all rosy. Madam Patience told host Krobea Asante that the high cost of fertilizer was a major challenge in her profession. This she said has put them in the uncomfortable position of borrowing money from their customers who are the market women for buying fertilizers and paying back after they have sold their products to them.

Acquiring a spraying machine has also been another problem as well as the climate change which is another problem facing them.
