Western North Cocoa Farmers Angry Over New Price

Cocoa farmers of sefwi Bodi, Juaboso and Akontombra in the Western North region are unhappy about the new producer price of cocoa announced by government.

The aggrieved farmers cited economic hardship, higher cost of living, increase in utility bills, communication service tax, and bad environment for business activities as their reasons for rejecting the new price.
The cocoa farmers hold the view that successive governments have disappointed them, leaving them in the plaque of suffering.
“Our suffering started under the leadership of Dr Kwame Nkrumah and we have since been suffering under every government, including his (Nana Akufo Addo) administration, after the numerous promises made to cocoa farmers in 2016, when campaigning to be elected as the president of the state.”
According to the cocoa farmers, President Akufo-Addo’s Administration has done nothing exceptional to better their living conditions,but making the situation worse of.
But the District Chief Cocoa Farmer of Asankragua in the Western North region, who doubles as Otumfuor Anamereko Gyasehene, Nana Yaw Adabanka, has encouraged the youth of the country to begin to explore their immediate environments for opportunities in the agricultural sector.


The Chief Cocoa Farmer made the call in an interview with the press to congratulate the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo- Addo, his government for their immense contributions on Cocoa farmers in the Country.
He advised Government to immediately work towards making the agricultural sector attractive to more people, especially the young ones.
