Tomato farmers at Djekiti in the Yilo Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region have been smiling at what they call a successful 2015 farming season. This according to them is because they enjoyed a very good harvest.
Speaking to Mr. Adu Nyanteh who is a small scale farmer at Djikiti, he pointed out that tomato does not necessarily need too much rain in order to survive. Advising farmers, he said anytime they intend planting, its necessary to study the weather to know if one has enough rain or not and the farm will do well when such factors are put on place.
According to Mr. Nyanteh though they had a very good yield they nevertheless still faced some challenges which hindered their farming activities.
He mentioned marketing especially in the face of bumper harvest as one of their key challenges. Further, he lamented that they don’t get any help from the government and due to that they can’t produce on a higher scale. He was however hopeful of a good yield this year.
