We Did Not Meet Our Target For 2015

The country’s Forest Commission has described 2015 as a year of misfortune for their outfit. The remarks were made by Mr. Raphael Yeboah, Executive Director of the Forestry Commission on the Rite Morning Ride.  Elaborating on why he arrived at that conclusion, the Executive Director posited that the Commission did not meet their target set for the year due to financial constraints the outfit encountered.

He said it was their aim to plant new trees and make sure the already planted ones were free from weeds but unfortunately, they did not meet any improvements in our Forestry. According to Mr. Yaboah they have set a goal to plant about 20,000 hectares of tree as they collaborate with other foreign agencies and district assemblies to enforce more laws to protect our forest reserves.

On the issue of bushfires particularly during the harmattan, he advised farmers, palm wine tappers, Fulani herdsmen, smokers as well as hunters to desist from and be extra cautious about the fire they set in the course of their activities and also make sure they are completely put off before leaving the scene.

He also advised concerned authorities, chiefs, as well as assemblymen to involve themselves in fighting against fire outbreaks to save lives and property.
