Volta Region NDC to demonstrate against Mahama

A group which claims to have more than 7, 000 National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth in the Volta Region is scheduled to demonstrate on July 14 against President John Mahama and his government.

The demonstration dubbed: “If the fool becomes wise, then the game is over,” according to them, is meant to be a wake up call to the President to find lasting solutions to the prevailing economic challenges.

The National Chairman of the group calling itself Disappointed Youth of NDC, Robert Tetteyfio Adjase, told Citi News that the high unemployment rate in the region, the worsening economic conditions and the incessant power cuts are the reasons for their planned protest.

“You complete university and years after completion, there is no job for you. The unemployment rate in this region is too high, most people in the Volta region cannot even afford a single meal a day and yet the NDC says the region is their “World Bank”, Robert Tetteyfio Adjase angrily said.

He added: “We the youth visited every nook and cranny in the region to canvass for votes for the NDC so that they can steer the affairs of the country. But it is rather unfortunate that they have failed Ghanaians especially the youth in Volta so we will go back to the same people and convince them to vote overwhelmingly for the opposition New Patriotic Party in the 2016 general election.

“The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) the Kufuor government started is near collapse. We thought that the NDC led by President John Mahama, after assuming office would improve on it but what the NDC has rather done is to collapse it,” he said.

Robert Tetteyfio Adjase also indicated that they will embark on a “mass defection” to the NPP because the regional executives had turned a deaf ear to their concerns

“We are all moving to the NPP because we believe they are the best party to govern this country.”

But reacting to the issues raised, the Deputy Volta Regional Secretary of the NDC, Mustapha Gbande questioned the credibility of the group and alleged that the NPP was behind the creation of the Group.

An incensed Mustapha said the regional executives did not know any group called Disappointed Youth of NDC.

“Our NDC Youth will not categorize themselves as Disappointed Youth of NDC. I am saying that the NPP is behind this wicked and unreasonable demonstration.”

He expressed confidence that the numerous projects undertaken by the Mahama-led administration in the Volta region were more than enough to secure more votes for the party in the 2016 general elections.

“We are focused on our Agenda 2016: which is a million more votes for John Mahama.”
