Vegetable And Fruit Farmers Urged To Join Ghana Green Label

Director of Crop Services at the ministry of food and Agriculture Mr. Krobea Asante has urged fruit and vegetable farmers in the country to join the Ghana Green Label Scheme which has been launched.

He made the urge during the launch of the Green Label at the Fiesta Royale Hotel in Accra. The Ghana Green Label is a scheme developed by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to encourage good farming practices among fruit and vegetable farmers since those farm products are not boiled before consumption.

He said the fact that fruits and some vegetables are consumed without boiling exposed consumers to health risks if they are not clean. This is why farmers who engage in fruit and vegetable farming would be certified by the scheme.

Some farms that were presented with these certificates included Eden Tree, Sow Green Farms, North Dzorwulu Farms, Atomic Vegetable Brewers, Nsa papaya, and Fotobi Pineapple Association.

Mr. Krobea told Rite news that certificates are reviewed on a yearly basis where those who fail to continue the good farming would have their certificates withdrawn.
