Using Mobile Phone In SHS Is Dangerous

The Deputy Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ghana Education Service (GES), has ruled out the call that Senior High School students be allowed to use mobile phones on campus describing it as dangerous to academic performance.

Mr. Eric Sikatse speaking on Rite fm stated emphatically that the issue of students using mobile phones in schools should not even arise in the first place and should not even be tolerated. “Let us follow what the law says to enhance good educational standards,” he said.

The Deputy PRO further stated that aspects in the syllabus are basic which does not need the use of mobile phone to support.

He said allowing SHS students to use mobile phones on campus would take away their attention in the classroom. “You waste your time using a mobile phone as student,” he hissed. He lamented that in the past when there were no mobile phones, student made it academically, a situation a so-called IT world can’t compare to.

The ban on the use of mobile phones in SHS should be maintained for student to have time for studies, he concluded.

Meanwhile the vice chancellor of the University for Development Studies is advocating for the use of mobile phone in the secondary schools.
