USAID Will Alleviate Poverty Amongst Farmers – Mr. Yakubu

Mr. Yakubu Iddrisu, a Policy Advocacy Specialist of USAID has said they have programs that will help farmers and alleviate poverty among them in order to improve the standard of living among farmers. Speaking to Mr. Yakubu on Rite news, he noted that they have targeted the Agriculture sector with many projects which includes an agriculture support on Rite FM, ‘Feed the Future Platform.’

Mr. Yakubu added that all these were working together to improve the agriculture sector in Ghana. The aim is also to help address the issue of food Security and alleviate poverty among farmers. He added that most of these projects have a life span of five years with most of the projects ending in 2018.

Mr. Yakubu further assured that the challenges of the farmers were being addressed through the various projects. To buttress this point, he said the issue of development in agric and supporting farmers is being done by the Advanced Project. According to him, they also support nuclear farmers which are farmers that cultivate on a higher scale.

Another area of interest to them is marketing. He said it is their aim to get ready markets for the produce after harvest and prevent post-harvest losses.
