Timely supply of subsidized fertilizer is what we need-NFFAWAG

Rains have set in the South and about to start in the three Northern Regions making headway for the kick start of the major farming season. But till now, government has still not released funds for the fertilizer subsidy programme. This has been a worry for farmers in the country.

Addressing the media today in Accra, the chairman for the National Farmers and Fishermen Award Winners Association of Ghana (NFFAWAG) Mr. Davis Korboe  called on government as a matter of urgency to execute the payment of the 2015 fertilizer payment for the seven distribution company to also supply to farmers.

He noted, huge cost of fertilizer on the regular market has caused farmers to apply small fertilizer component on their farms hence causing the low yields. “Farmers apply 8kg of fertilizer per a hector of land instead of about 20kg per a hector”.

According to him they appreciate government’s effort to savage the situation by subsidizing for famers and further intiating 50kg of fertilizer per a hector by 2020 but they are appealing on government to make the intervention timely for the programme to serve it purpose.

He promised government that his team and all Ghanaians on board will continue to feed the nation and never will they make Ghana go hungry.
