The Youth Needs More Education On Gender Equality & Sexual Reproductive Health – Gender Activist

In its sustainable development goals, the United Nations, a paragraph of goal three says, universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services, including family planning, information and education should be common among every human race irrespective of the geographical location by 2030.

It is explicitly not out of place when former and retired Volta regional Director for Gender, Mrs. Comfort Ablometi called for sensitization and educating the youth on their sexual and reproductive health rights.

In an interview with Rite FM at a workshop held at Dodowa Presbyterian Church of Ghana, to educate the youth on Gender Equality and their Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, the gender activist, Mr. Ablometi said the youth needs more education to take their sexual health serious.

According to her, the education has already started with the girls to enlighten them on the need to be more proactive in handling issues affecting their sexual life and also deem it very necessary to educate the males too about when and how they can say no to sex or pressure to reduce the rate of rape and teenage pregnancy cases across the country.

She advised parents not to limit their children rather, allow grow them together to explore without restrictions as well as providing their basic needs.

“Am appealing to all parents to make sure their children are secured, provide them with their needs because they are God’s sent, and we have to make sure we provide them with the needed shelter” she said.

In her speech, Mrs. Matilda who is the Greater Accra Regional Director for Gender also disclosed that, “studies have pointed out that for Gender relations to be transformed, Ghana as a country needs to change certain structures that underpin its regulations”.

“Awareness, analysis and visibility are key starting points in our task of understanding gender roles and masculinities and their impact on bridging the gender gap”, she said.

Present at the events are the Students from Dodowa ICES, Hillview Senior High School and Ghanata Senior High School, Drivers, Police Officers, Teachers and other stakeholders.

Students who partake in the workshop expressed gratitude to the organizers and also noted that, “the program has taught us a lot about our rights and health responsibilities”.
