Some farmers from the Central Region have accused the Ministry Of Food and Agriculture of giving them fake fertilizers, its alleged that these fertilizers do not help their crops. Mr. Issah Ridwan the press secretary for the Minster of Food and Agriculture speaking on the allegation, said there is no issue with the fertilizers, as they aren’t of low quality.
According to him, its the first time hearing about the inadequacy of the fertilizer distributed, he believes the fertilizers distributed by the government is 80 percent correct and not fake. He said in the past, only about 11 percent of farmers could afford fertilizers but due to the new initiative Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ), about 80 to 90 percent of farmers have admitted that the government subsidy to support the farmers have really helped them.
He added that, it could be that the farmers do not apply the fertilizer using the prescribed dosage, which could have affected their crops. The fertilizers are of good quality. Meanwhile, Agriculture Consultant Mr. Shakespare Jokoto advised the Ministry to thoroughly investigate these allegations and not be quick to debunk them and then find ways to avert the problem as he has also been a victim.
