The Fulani Invasion – Kwahu Falls Victim Too

In as much as the nation’s attention on the Fulani scourge continue to hover around the Agogo township in the Ashanti region, a lot more communities continue to be on the receiving end of the wanton destruction of farmlands and other properties and which continue to threaten the peace and security of those communities.

One of the other affected communities includes Kwahu in the Eastern region which has also been on the receiving end of the Fulani invasion.

Confirming this to Rite news, Mr. Kwadwo Asante, a resident of Kwahu revealed to Rite news that Fulani herdsmen have indeed invaded the Kwahu community and engaging in the wanton destruction of properties and acts of murder.

He said in as much as everyone has the right and freedom of movement, destruction and killings cannot be countenanced, adding that the Fulani have already murdered about ten of their kinsmen. This according to Kwadwo Asante is really unacceptable.

“As a farmer, I need to protect my farmland, but I can’t be at the farm always to fulfill that watchdog role. This is what has given the herdsmen the advantage to invade their farms in the night and in the process destroying their crops,” Mr. Asante fumed.

Aside the destruction of their farmlands, the indigenes of the area also accuse the herdsmen of engaging in armed robberies as well as other criminal activities. They accused the police of feet dragging in dealing with herdsmen caught in these criminal activities and releasing them only for them to engage in more acts of criminality.

What is the real threat, he noted is the fact that the farmers have repeatedly reported these issues of the Fulani herdsmen on their farms to the security agencies who unfortunately have not taken any steps to address it.
