The Free SHS Policy Is Good, But It Didn’t Bring About The Increment Of School Population

An Educationist, Dr Daniel Fennye said free S.H.S is a very good policy but it didn’t bring about the increment of school population. Whoever said free SHS is not good haven’t experience poverty before but those who have tasted poverty will testify to the fact that free SHS has really helped and save a lot of people.

He said, majority of Ghanaians are below the average standard of living so if school fees should be added, then it would have be a problematic. Most people are interested in the numbers which appears in the political space that is why the education minister came out to say 1.2million students have enrolled to SHS due to the free SHS policy.

He quest: 1.2 million people enrolled so is the kind of education given them good, is it a quality kind of education, you can get 1.2 million to be in school but in the future you won’t be able to get 10 percent of them to be useful, and sending 600 to school who will end up useful which one is better?

He added that those days many people were not able to go school, commonly it was because their grades were not good enough for posting, it was the policy of posting even low grade students to school, That’s what has brought about the increment, the removal of the cut of grade.

This also brought about the double track system. The free SHS system needs review, some of the policies especially the double track system.
He then urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to sit Mahama down and talk to him. Till date he doesn’t have any new policies of his own only that of NPP which he wants to review.
