“Sad Month. March,…!” As Prez Mahama Pays Tribute To Fallen Heroes

President Mahama has paid glowing tribute to all the fallen heroes Ghana has lost in the month of March.

This dark month has left Ghanaians in deep anguish following the death of several public figures who served the nation selflessly and diligently.

In a tweet posted on his official twitter handle, the president stated; “Sad month. March has taken a great toll. MoD Chief Dir A. Fuseini, B Okala, DCOP Awuni & now J. Obetsebi Lamptey. Deepest condolences”.

Mr. Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey, born on February 4, 1946 in Accra, Ghana – the second son of Emmanuel Obetsebi-Lamptey (a prominent lawyer and politician) and his Dutch wife Margaretha – died early Sunday, March 20, 2016 in a London hospital.

His death follows that of Eastern Regional police commander, DCOP Awuni, last week. In early March, Ghana also lost comedian Bishop Bob Okala, whose death followed that of another comedian, Nkomode, in February.

Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey, served as Chief of Staff in the Kufuor administration and later as Minister of Tourism.

Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey, played an integral part in former President’s Kufuor’s victory in 2001, as his Election Campaign Manager.

He served as the first Chief of Staff in the Former President’s administration and variously as Minister of Information and Presidential Affairs, and Minister of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital City.

Ghana’s former President Kufuor also had something to say about his good old friend.

He described the late Obetsebi-Lamptey as: “very professional in his field of Public Relations and Advertising,” adding that, “he conveyed serious matters with a relaxed mien and charm, was affable and had a great sense of humour; he was a good man.”
