Rice Producers Must Be Equipped To Produce More

By Austin Ofori:

Agriculture has now become the most common occupation for most Ghanaians, particularly, a cross-section of Ghanaians. However, there’s the shortfall as most Ghanaians don’t have the financial resources to produce more to feed the populace.

One area which undoubtedly faces the brunt of the challenges is the Rice farming sector. In an interview with Mr. Kofi Rockson, chairman of the Ghana-Ivory Coast Rice Importers Association on the Rite Morning Ride, he expressed grave concerns and doubts about whether rice growers in Ghana can produce rice to the satisfaction of Ghanaians taking into consideration the myriad of challenges confronting them.

This according to him is because rice growers don’t have the necessary resources crucial for the satisfactory production to meet the demands, adding that with the necessary support and resources, they would be able to produce enough rice to feed and meet the demands of the populace.

He further stated that unless rice growers are well-equipped with resources, rice production would continue to suffer. Citing an analogy to buttress his point, Mr. Rockson compared a land filled with minerals but no machinery to harvest the minerals.
