Residents Threaten To Boycott The Upcoming Referendum if…

Cocoa farmers and residents of Sefwi Bekwai in the Western North Region have threatened to boycott the upcoming referendum if government do not call on the contractor working on the Sefwi Bekwai – Asankragua road to return to site.
According to them, the contract was awarded to Big Aidoo’s Construction Firm since 2002 by the erstwhile John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration.

Some residents who spoke to Rite FM, described the conduct of the contractor as carelessly lazy.

“He comes to site only when there is a change of government. He was given the contract during ex-president J.A Kufuor’s regime and has since not completed it,” lamented, a resident.
Speaking to the Chief Farmer of the area, Nana Yaw Dabanka, has warned that, if the Ministry of Roads and Highways do not bring the contractor to site before December, 2019, the people of the Asankragua, Sefwi Bekwai and their environs area will not take part in the referendum and the 2020 general elections.
“The contractor comes to site after every election, do shoddy work; vacate the sit. I don’t know what his problem is, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the Member of Parliament are all aware, but has kept mute on the situation. I don’t think money is the contractor’s problem. He is just not serious with the work,” he fumed.
Nana Yaw Dabanka further alleged that the contractor whose constructing firm is Big Aidoo’s Construction Firm and the constituency Chairman for Sewi Wiawso for the National Democratic Congress is currently working at Brong Ahafo Region, leaving the closed to 20 years contract unattended to.

“We are giving the government up to December, if we don’t see the contractor on the road, we are not taking part in the referendum” he threatened.
