Residents Of Upper East Region Demonstrate Over Deplorable State Of Their Roads.

The movement for Upper East Development has led the people of the Upper East Region to present a petition to the honorable Regional Minister, Hon Paulina Abayage after demonstrating through the principal route over what was described as neglect of the region. Below stated are the reasons for the demonstration.

  • The porous and poor road network in the region.
  • The delay in setting up the region’s aviation center.
  • Dormant streetlights and broken down traffic lights.
  • The poor state of the regional stadium.
  • Updates on the regional and Bolgatanga municipal hospital.

The group leader of the movement for Upper East Development Pual Honkani said, the Upper East road is a significant route that links Ghana to its neighbouring West African countries such as Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin, Mali and Niger thereby putting the road on intense pressure. Nonetheless, if the road is properly worked on, it will go a long way to boost the economy within and outside the region.

They said, there has been a proliferation of accidents, according to their private checks there is an average of 13 accidents every week which mathematically gives 624 accidents per year. Also, most of their streetlights and traffic lights have become white elephants as a result of criminal activities. Accidents have become very rampant due to dysfunctional traffic lights. They added how embarrassing the state of the regional stadium is.

“We have learned that Upper East is the only region without a regional stadium but with a community pitch instead. The hospital we have in Bolgatanga is yet to be branded regional or municipal which we are not sure for now and also the hospital lacks to match the number of patients that visit to seek health care. We are scared of our lives because the doctor to patient ratio is very appalling”. they lamented
