Rebecca Crowned Winner of Miss Ngmayem 2017 (Photos)

An SHS graduate was crowned beauty queen at this year’s annual Miss Ngmayem beauty pageant and said she didn’t expect to win the title.

Rebecca, 20, beat five other contestants to win the crown and the sash at the Liberty Entertainment Center on Sunday dawn in front of hundreds of spectators.

She will now hold that enviable title for the next one year as she undertakes a special project in breast cancer awareness creation during her tenure as beauty queen.

Rebecca said, “I’m very amazed. I literally didn’t think I would win. I wasn’t expecting it but I knew I was going to put up my best and it worked,” she told ritefmonline.org after the event, clearly gob smacked and trying hard not to cry, perhaps not to ruin her make-up.

Rebecca is no stranger to the world of pageants and was a part of school beauty pageants as well as the most recent Miss Dodowa beauty pageant where she placed fourth. She was supported on Sunday by her family and friends, clearly unable to ‘process’ the victory until returning to her home.

She said, “Whatever you want to be in life, just believe in yourself and aim higher because if you don’t sell yourself, no man can sell you,” she advised.

Rebecca who looks up to Ama, winner of TV3’s Ghana’s most beautiful Season 3 as her role model, urged young girls to “believe in themselves and aim high and sell themselves.”

She also said she was looking forward to, in the coming months, carrying out special breast cancer awareness as her project in the Lower Manya Krobo district to sanitize young women on the menace.

The pageant’s seven rounds required quick costume changes from the young women, switching from traditional wear, casual wear, evening wear, dipo costume, and evening gowns.

Miss Batsa Esther, 19 and a student, took the 1st-runner-up position. She took home a burner, a mobile phone and a piece of wax print as her prize.

20-year-old, Miss Bertha Abigail Amoatey, a student nurse who placed 2nd-runner-up also received a rice cooker, a mobile phone and a piece of wax print as her prize.

The other three contestants also received various prizes including blenders and wax prints as consolation prizes.

Artistes whose performances sparked the place included Bro Kwao, Ranking, Joe Zorzor, Stone Zigi, Kwame Tee among others.
