Put In Place Policies To Help Farmers, Government Urged

By Nyarko Francis

The Content Manager of Esoko Ghana Limited, Mr. Francis Danso Agyei has called on the government to draw major policies that will boost the agricultural sector to raise the standard of living of the ordinary farmer. According to him, most of the farmers lost their farm produce as a result of the climate change and that government needs to intervene and address their challenges.

He said agriculture was the backbone of the nation’s economy with more than 55% of Ghana’s population engaged in the sector. Rather unfortunately, little attention is being given to the sector whereas we can implement measures to improve its current state.

Mr. Danso Agyei in an interview with Rite news explained that Esoko as part their promise to support the farmers to be able to improve their farming activities in collaboration with Vodafone developed what he called farmers club where they interact with majority of farmers through mobile Phone conversation by giving them information on commodity prices on the various market centers as well as updates on prevailing weather conditions.

He stated that they had been able to achieve their target set for the year 2015 looking at the intervention and the feedback they got from farmers and other stakeholders in the agribusiness sector, adding that their efforts have been successful, adding that farmers will enjoy more initiatives from Esoko Ghana.

He has therefore advised farmers to see farming as a lucrative business and that they should put in more passion in whatever they are doing.
