PURC must be scraped of-AFAG

The Alliance for Accountable Government (AFAG) is calling on government to scrap off the public utilities and regulatory commission (PURC) for not being able to serve the interest of the ordinary Ghanaian and also failing to deliver on their mandate.

Rite FM in an interview with Mr. Henry Asante, who is an executive member of AFAG, described the PURC as insensitive, needless and baseless.

He explained that, the commission is vulnerable and has no bargaining power to help the people of Ghana, so what it does is just to approve any tariff increment that utility providers bring on board.

Mr., Asante recalled that, when there was no intermediary between the consumer and utility providers, consumers were at comfort and feeling better.

He therefore questioned why PURC is not complying with the automatic adjustment formula.

Mr. Henry Asante told Rite FM that, if PURC turned death ears to their cry, they (AFAG) would only resort to court action for interpretation.
