President Mahama to strengthen ties with Italy

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has left Accra for Rome, Italy, where he is expected to hold discussions with Italian President Sergio Mattarella.
President Mahama will also meet with the Italian Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi, and discuss issues bordering on economic relations and pending bilateral agreements between the two countries.

On Friday, the President will perform a flag-raising ceremony to commemorate the Ghana Day at the ongoing Milan Expo 2015, during which the Ghana Pavilion at the Expo will host a Business Forum.

President Mahama is also expected to hold meetings with a number of Italian businesses with interest in Ghana.
Ghana has very good diplomatic and economic relations with Italy.

With more than 118 Italian companies working in Ghana, Italy is ranked 10th. in terms of foreign projects registered in Ghana as at March, this year.

Ghana’s export to Italy reached almost 2.2 billion cedis or 628 million US dollars in 2012, while imports from Italy amounted to 500 million cedis (142.8 million USD).

The majority of Ghana’s exports to Italy were petroleum products.
