By: Krobea Asante Tofepa – Ntomentwene

NDC Parliamentary candidate for Asamankese in the West Akim Municipality of the Eastern region , Shirley Naana Osei has bemoaned that President John Dramani Mahama deserve another four year term to continue with developmental projects in the country.

She made these statements during the inauguration of the fourth community day Senior High School at Kwaboah Nyanoa on the 4th day of February, 2016.

According to her, the country has witnessed gross infrastructural development in areas of road construction, water, sanitation and education with the construction of numerous facilities that has moved many school children from leaning under trees.

Naana also expressed her concern for the maintenance of peace in the country and therefore called on political leaders, religious organizations as well as the youth to refrain from practices that could ruin our dear country or put it to disrepute.

The Parliamentary Aspirant also revealed that, she was prepared to work hard with the President and therefore humbly appealed to the people of West Akim to canvass more votes for her and President Mahama in the 7th of November  general elections.

President John Dramani Mahama, delivering his speech said increased infrastructural development was part of efforts to build a solid foundation for economic growth for the benefit of Ghanaians both home in the diaspora.

In a reaction to claims by some Ghanaians that the country faced economic challenges, President Mahama reiterated that Ghanaians needed to sacrifice for important things, and therefore called for restraint as government was ready to put interventions in the way to deliver the populace from hardships.

“I can understand when people say things are tight, but we need to make sacrifices for the things that are important and beneficial, yes it is true that there is some economic hardship, but we are using the money that we are raising for building social and economic infrastructure and the things that will help this country”

“So we have spent the last four years doing investment and putting our social and economic infrastructure in good shape, and when I win the second term, then we will start to put money in your pocket”, he said.

However, Alhaji Omar Budinga, first vice chairman of the opposition NPP in the Eastern region has argued that such statements are unfortunate and merely engineered and fabricated to deceive the Ghanaian populace, stating that the same promise of putting monies in peoples pocket was made by him the President in 2012 during his campaign, however Ghanaians still live in abject poverty.

He has therefore cautioned Ghanaians not to believe in such light statements,  but rather question the Mahama led NDC administration to deal with corrupt government officials who at the expense of the tax payer’s money amass wealth for themselves.
