People Of Yilo Question State Of Municipal Farms

By Austin Ofori Addo:

Some concerned people of the Yilo Krobo district have raised concerns about the current state of mango production in the municipality. The group is questioning the current state of the Yilo Mango Farms, what income it brings to the area and what exactly such funds are used for.

Speaking to Mr. Philip Kwadjo Awuah, Director at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture of the Yilo Krobo district about the issues of the state of the mango farm belonging to the municipality, he said he knows by document and records that the municipality has a mango farm and even recently the assembly referred to the issue of the state of the farm to the Agric sub-committee to look at the state and management of it to enhance it maximum productivity..

The director further made it clear that they will now enter into the farms to ascertain for themselves what is happening on the ground on the various farms and ensure that adequate care is taken in its management.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly, hon. Andrews Soda has stated that he is aware that the mango farm is under the care of someone but the contract between the assembly and the person has expired. He explained that the assembly is now considering the option of giving it out to another farmer. In respect of this, he explained that they have published it in the papers and some applications from interested people have come in from people who want to manage the farm.

He said last week the Agric committee of the assembly met to decide on how they will award the contract to any individual who shows interest in its management, adding that the size of the mango farm is about 50 acres.
