Ghanaians Urged to Patronize Locally Produced Perfumed Rice

By Austin Ofori:

The Municipal Development Officer in charge of Extension Services at Lower Manya in charge of AGRA, Mr. Philip Amoah has urged Ghanaians to buy locally produced perfumed rice because it’s nutritious and highly palatable.

According to Mr. Amoah, the Alliance Green Resolution Africa, AGRA Rice, can be compared to any foreign perfumed rice and he wondered what would make Ghanaians still patronize the foreign rice in the face of the quality AGRA rice.

Mr. Amoah made the call when he appeared on Rite FM’s Agrotech hosted by Edwin Larbi on Monday. He added that farmers are compelled and pushed to increase production of the local rice if Ghanaians patronize it the more which affords the farmers the opportunity to make more income which will in turn lead to a reduction in poverty.

Farmers, he noted, will then come to appreciate the fact that farming is very profitable and that AGRA Rice is of a big advantage to them.

On what steps they are taking to ensure that farmers have access to farm inputs to boost their production, Mr. Amoah said the Department of Agric gives the farmers inputs free of charge to cultivate the AGRA Rice.

He said serious farmers at Akuse and its environs are given eight bags of NPK fertilizer and two bags of Urea as well as 80kg of AGRA Rice free just to promote this particular type of rice, adding that they monitor their activities with researches.
