Parliament to summon adb

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Agriculture has given indication that it will soon summon the Agricultural Development Bank (adb) following the neglect of its core mandate.

This follows numerous complaints from farmers on the challenges they go through when trying to secure a loan.

ADB bank which was established purposely to cater for the needs of farmers has since diverted from its core mandate of providing financial support to farmers.

Speaking at a National Stakeholder Conference on Agriculture, Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee, Kwame AsafuAdjei said the committee would push the bank back to serving the needs of farmers.

“Unfortunately the only bank we have for farmers is the Agricultural Development Bank. But it is not serving the interest of farmers anymore and my committee will invite them to come and explain to us because this is a farmers bank where they have to look out for the interest of farmers and all stake holders,” he said.

Mr. Adjei added that in order for agriculture to continue to have the relevance it deserves in Ghana’s economy, all stakeholders should be made to play their part.

“Agriculture cannot continue to be a strong pillar of the economy if we do not put the necessary measures in place. I am confident that we will all benefit and the planting for food and jobs will be a success. I will do my part and all stakeholders should endeavor to do their part ads well”.
