PARLIAMENT APPROVES LOAN FOR REHABILITATION OF TWO BRIDGES IN YILO KROBO

The Parliament of Ghana has in December, 2018 approved a Czech Republic loan facility for the Road and Highways Ministry for rehabilitation of two bridges; Oterkporlu and Okwenya both in the Yilo Krobo Municipal of the Eastern Region.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) law maker for Yilo Krobo Constituency, Hon. Lawyer Magnus Kofi Amoatey speaking to Rite News at the commissioning of a new police post at New Somanya Saturday broke the news to give hope to his constituents who have been knocking on his doors on what he has been doing about the deplorable bridges in parliament.

Yilo Klo Heritage Council (HIKLOHEC) has commissioned and handed over a police post wealth GHS 34, 180 to the Yilo Krobo Police Command Saturday at New Somanya.

Two bridges which connect mainly each of the Krobo districts namely; Upper Manya, Lower Manya and Yilo Krobo serve as route for farmers who send their farm produce to Agormanya, Koforidua, Accra and Nkurankan markets.

Rite FM’s Community Watch has made persistent calls on both local and regional authorities to get the bridges renovated.

There has been serious concerns from both the media and residents of the Krobo environs, calling on their leaders to ensure the bridge is fixed.

Mr. Adolf Nomo, Krobo born US dweller is not an exception. He has adopted to advocate and put intense pressure on the Krobo Members of Parliaments (MPs), Minister(s) and Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives who are part of the current President Akufo Addo led administration to ensure the bridges are refurbished.

He has, however, tagged them with their images and text  as, “Krobo land politicians are incompetent, Amoatey Kofi Magnus, Yilo MP-incompetence when you know Oterkpolu bridge will kill your people but you don’t care about it, Krobo land politicians I will make your faces unpopular on Krobo land if you don’t say/do anything about the Oterkpolu bridge.”

Hon. Okletey Teilarbi, Hon. Joseph Tetteh Angmor, Hon. Magnus Kofi Amoatey, MPs for Lower/Upper Manya and Yilo Krobo constituencies respectively, Hon. Simon K. Tetteh, Hon Ebenezer Tetteh Kupualor, Hon Felix Odjao as well as the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Hon Samuel Nuertey Ayertey all had their share of the name and shame advocacy approach.

Hon. Magnus Kofi Amoatey has promised he would return to find out the exact loan amount and timeline for the arrival of the loan facility to inform the public in his next interview with the Agric and Social Development radio station, Rite 90.1 FM

Chairperson and secretary to the Volta River Resettlement Trust Fund Board, Hon. Magnus Kofi Amoatey and Mr. Tsum Burima (1st Vice Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party, Eastern Region) respectively have revealed, the Board has also approved the construction of a six unit self-contain Teachers Quarters apartment to accommodate teachers of the New Somanya Methodist Basic School.

The secretary in his key note speech noted that, the Volta River Resettlement Trust Fund Board has conducted Needs Assessment Survey, and water was pin pointed as the major need of the community. According to him, the Board is working tirelessly with the Public Utility Regulation Commission (PURC) to provide potable drinking water for the area.
